A Guide to 2006 Hairstyles

A Guide to Hot Fall 2006 HairstylesAre you tired of your unmanageable hair? Maybe you're ready for a change, and if so, you're in luck! The hairstyles that represent some of the most popular of 2006 are beautiful and wearable, and there's something for every hair length and type. Let's take a look at some of the best 2006 hairstyles that you could request next time you're at the salon:

For Short Hair:

The new trend for short hair is that of voluminous layers with lots of body. To get this style, ask your stylist for layers that are long enough to roll on large hot rollers. This hairstyle has the most volume at the top, then tapers to the middle of the neck. To add interest to this short yet full style, try some contrasting highlights that accentuate the lines of the cut.

Then there's the classic pixie -- a style that's been around since Mia Farrow first sported it decades ago. The best part about this hairstyle is the ease of maintenance. After shampooing, work a light styling gel or mousse into the hair and muss with fingers for an undone look. Make sure you don't use too much product, and finish your style with a light-hold pomade lightly patted over the surface of your hair and worked into the ends for a piecey look. To dress up this look, try miniature bows, barrettes or clips with a little color or sparkle.

A longer version of the pixie is good for women who want short hair but still desire a bit of length. This style is best handled with a styling wax or paste that's tousled through the hair to create a spiky, modern look. This is another great look that lends itself to highlights.

For Medium Length Hair:

Medium length hair is highly versatile. One style that works for this length is the bob. Whether your hair is straight or wavy, a bob can look sleek and sophisticated. Bobs are defined as cuts of all one length that can be as short as chin length or as long as shoulder length. To style, blowdry straight using a protective heat-styling serum, or set on medium sized hot rollers for wavy volume.

The shag is another cut that looks amazing on medium length hair. This style also lends itself to not only straight hair, but curlier locks as well. This cut is defined by a variety of layers that create a shaggy look, hence the name. The shag is versatile because it's long enough to be pinned up, curled, flipped at the ends or blown straight.

For Long Hair:

Long hair looks great when long, graduated layers are cut around the face. These layers add interest and volume, and work for all hair textures. Try coaxing the layers in towards the face, a style called “The Rachel” and defined by Jennifer Aniston on the hit show Friends. Or, flip the ends of the layers up for a fresh look. For a romantic style, twist your hair into a chignon and leave a few tendrils loose around your face.

For women with straight hair, a one-length style can be gorgeous. The key to this hairstyle is to keep the hair in great condition by using a nourishing shampoo and conditioner. Also, a weekly deep conditioning treatment can work wonders towards boosting hair health. To style long, one-length hair, blowdry straight then use a flat iron to further smooth and straighten strands. Finish with a shine boosting spray or finishing balm to discourage frizz and keep your hair gleaming.
