Spring/Summer 2007 Makeup Trends
Your wardrobe isn't the only thing that may need updating this
spring and summer. Trendy new cosmetics can also be a great way to
add some new life to your look. One of the best things about the new
makeup trends is their versatility and wearability. No matter what
your fashion sense, skin tone or hair color, you can find a new
makeup trend that works for you.
Texture is important for cosmetics, and never more so than in 2007.
The new crop of mineral makeups are smooth and nurturing for every
skin tone and type. Mineral makeup comes in a powder form, which is
gently buffed onto the skin using a soft puff or large, fluffy
brush. The finely milled powder works to cover imperfections and
even skin tone while imparting a healthy glow. Pigment powders are
also a hot trend. These powders, such as those offered by MAC
Cosmetics, can be used as loose eyeshadow or mixed with a blending
medium and used on the cheeks, lips, even nails.
In the world of blush, however, the trend is moving away from powder
and towards cream, mousse and gel. These textures offer a natural
glow that appears to be from within. When using cream, mousse or gel
blush, try applying it before foundation for a natural glow. If you
desire more intensity, layer on more product or top with a light
dusting of powder blush. Cream blush is perfect for dry skin types,
while gel is ideal for oily skin. Mousse can work for most everyone
thanks to its light, whipped texture.
Lip gloss is still hot for 2007. Copper shades accented with a bit
of shimmer work for all skin tones. When it comes to gloss, think
sheer neutral shades. For a more polished look, line lips with a
nude lip pencil before applying gloss. If you must wear red lips, do
it correctly. Choose a red lipstick that goes with your skin tone,
and always line lips first. After applying lipstick precisely with a
brush, blot lightly. Keep eyes and cheeks neutral yet defined for a
look that's classic yet modern at the same time.
The smoky eye is also still in style, but only when paired with
neutral lips and soft cheeks. Today's smoky eye doesn't have to use
charcoal or black shades. Great colors for an updated smoky look
include bronze, eggplant and navy. First, layer on a medium toned
shadow from lid to browbone. Add a dark shade in the crease and
blend well. Next, line eyes on top and bottom lids using matching
gel liner applied with a brush. Curl lashes and apply two to three
coats of black mascara. Speaking of mascara, hot choices these days
are all about length and volume. Try one of the dual mascaras that
come with a primer that is applied first, followed by the actual
mascara second.
Fragrance is a great finishing touch for any look. The hottest trend
in fragrance are scents that are food-inspired. You'll find notes
like chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon and fruit popping up everywhere.
For example, Angel by Thierry Mugler combines aspects like chocolate
and honey, while Vera Wang Princess features dark chocolate combined
with a pink frosting scent. If you want a foody scent that's not
overly sweet, try something like Prada, which blends sweet vanilla
with spicy cardamom and amber.
