Advice On Buying Men’s Jackets
Many styles of men's jackets which are popular today are based on the styles of clothing worn by soldiers during World War I and II. Probably the best example of this is the bomber jacket. Made from leather and designed to keep the body extra warm, it is close fitting and has an elastic waistline and cuffs so as to prevent warm air from seeping out and cold air from coming in. For extra insulation, some bomber jackets also have a fur lining to provide even more insulation.
Pea coats also have their roots from the same era. They are thigh length jackets made of wool, which have several oversized buttons down the front of them. These were a common sight on soldiers in trenches during the Wars. They have continued to be popular due to their 'no nonsense' approach. Men tend to prefer simple styles and looks and it's difficult to get more simple than a pea coat. A black, navy blue or brown pea coat looks good with anything, from a pair of scruffy jeans to a formal pair of pants.
A longer, more formal, alternative to pea coats are wool trench coats. Typically available in black, blue, gray and brown, they look great for wearing to work in the winter months. They are particularly great for guys living in wet countries because they keep not only the top of the body dry but also your pants too. A patterned scarf is nice a compliment to them, as they add a bit of color and contrast to your look.
For more formal occasions, when you want to dress to impress and don't have to worry about extreme weather conditions, a casual blazer is a good jacket to have on hand. Wearing one makes it look like you have made some effort even if you haven't really. A black blazer can instantly smarten up the jeans and t-shirt look that most men prefer. Keep in mind that a blazer jacket is not the same thing as a suit blazer. Blazer jackets are really a different thing.
The jackets mentioned above are all classic styles which will be in style for a long while yet. So, rather than fret about what to buy the next time you need a new jacket, opt for one of the above styles and you can rest assured that you will look the part, whether it be for work or play.
