How To Choose A Nail Polish Color

When I get a manicure, I always notice everyone having a hard time choosing a color. There are thousands of colors to choose from, so it's going to be hard for many people! After being in the fashion industry for many years, I've come up with some ways to make it easier and I'm here to share these tips with you.

One of the first things to consider when choosing the color of your nail polish is what you'll be doing. Is there a special event or an occasion? The colors will vary based on what you're doing (a date, normal day, wedding).

Neutral colors or colors that are muted are very professional. If you have a presentation or any business meeting, these color tones are a great selection. It keeps it real simple and professional. On the flip side, if you go with something funky for a meeting it may distract your audience if you use your hands at all.

We all like to use some exciting colors at times too. An evening out or a party is a great time to experiment with some fun colors. It's a great time to throw on gold, silver or bronze polish, especially since these colors aren't typical daytime colors. If you're not sure which color to use, then decide based on your jewelry. Use a gold polish with gold nails and silver polish with silver nails.

Another key factor to consider when choosing polish color is your skin tone. For fair skin, go with lighter shades. Pink and blue based nail polish work well with fair skin as well. Fair skinned ladies also look great in a berry red shade on the lighter side for the daytime, while something more intensified work well for the evening.

If you're olive or dark skinned, you definitely have more options to choose from. Vibrant colors as well as ambers or gold colors will look great. Colors like deep reds, purples and russet are all great options as well.

Nail polish colors are also very seasonal. Lighter colors are better suited for the spring/summer, while dark/rich colors work well in the fall and winter. Pales pinks or lavenders are great for a summer evening, while hot pink is a lot of fun for a pool party!

The next time you're in the nail salon and having a hard time choosing a nail color, think back on this article. Hopefully this will help make the process easier for you!
